About “BARE”

On MISS JOO’s debut EP, "BARE," she takes a leap of faith to embrace her true passions and let go of the fears and insecurities that held her back. For MISS JOO, becoming a musician and an artist always seemed like an unrealistic dream. As a transplant from South Korea who spent her 20s in New York City, she has been honing her craft in private, playing her ukulele and piano, and writing songs that reflected her innermost thoughts and feelings. "BARE" is a wrap-up of this journey, touching upon her bare feelings, desires, and passions. It’s an exploration of accepting her real passion and taking off all the armor and ego that suppressed her.

Recorded at Neptune Studios in New York City with the help of lead engineer Jihao Zhang, "BARE" was completed in an intense three-week session, balancing studio time with a busy work life. The process was both daunting and rewarding, as MISS JOO navigated the challenges of recording in a professional studio for the first time. The EP features five raw, unfiltered acoustic ballads that explore themes of insecurity, loneliness, love, breakup, and self-acceptance.

"Recording 'BARE' was a very intense experience for me because I had never recorded in a professional studio before. It felt really awkward and daunting singing in a studio and recording instrumentals, but creating music from A to Z was very rewarding and a great learning experience. It felt like I had finally 'completed' the songs I wrote in my 20s."
